Rocket Donuts

The rocket stands outside our favorite donut shop in downtown Bellingham. The building has a mural painted on the wall facing the parking lot. The only time to get a photo of the mural without cars blocking it was at 5 AM.

Gorge Lake, North Cascages National Park

Gorge Lake is on Highway 20 in the North Cascades National Park. There are several waterfalls that flow into Gorge lake. The green color of the lake is from the water flowing into it from glaciers. The lower image is made from two photos taken from metal bridge over the canyon.

Flowers on the Dock

This entire dock north of Birch Bay was covered with these yellow flowers. Like this large chain it appears the dock hasn't been used for years.

Study for Platinum Print

Got up at 4:30 Am to photograph at dawn downtown and weather was great but by the time I got back home it was raining hard and the radio is predicting record rain today. Will spend the day downloading and sorting photos.
This is just a study in B&W for a project that will be printed in Platinum.

La Conner, Washington

This very large warehouse is right on the harbor in La Conner Washington. Although the exterior has weathered over the years the wood construction appears very solid from the inside.

Whatcom Falls Park

The light was great around 8PM yesterday so went to out local park for some more photo.

Vancouver, BC Road Trip

Granddaughters

The ponds had a large variety of Water Lilies

Suspension Bridge

Treetop Walk

For many years I have taken many road trips, "are we there yet?", with the granddaughters but the other day they took me on a road trip to north of  Vancouver BC. They drove through the city of Vancouver both ways, I was just the passenger, "are we there yet?" They never got lost even though it was their first time here also.

In the top photo on the right is Kaija who just graduated from Western Washington University here in Bellingham. On the left is Samia who will graduate from the University of Washington next year. Graduating at age 20, sure beat me.

Our first stop was the VanDusen Gardens in downtown Vancouver with a large selection of flowers and trees along with a waterfall and a maze. Samia does great photos of flowers and this was the place for flowers.

The next stop was Capilano Suspension Bridge Park. The suspension bridge is 450 feet long and 230 feet high and has been there since 1889. There is also a treetop walk that goes from tree to tree in several cable suspended sections. The treetop walk is up to 10 stories high in trees that have stood here for over 1000 years. What fun. Thanks ladies.

Reflection

This is a reflection on an icy lake up near Artist Point. The reason it might not look like a reflection was that I rotated it 180 degrees. Turn your monitor upside down, you'll see what I mean.

Drftwood Tree House

In Washington it's not easy to get down to the ocean. The towns all have harbors and there may be a walking path along the water but once you are out of town the roads and highways do not follow the coast and there is little access to the water. It seems much easier to get to the coast in California and Oregon. I did find this spot just north of Bellingham where there room to park just beyond the industrial area and walk along the water to an long pier that appears not to be in use anymore. There are some large trees along the shore line and someone has used driftwood logs to build a tree house.

Artist Point

Last week the road from the ski area to Artist Point was closed. A couple days ago it was plowed and now open. Still a lot of snow but it is open, the walk to the restrooms was even shoveled.

4th of July Fireworks, Blaine Washington

In Arizona I wouldn't be wearing a heavy fleece jacket and a warm hat to watch the fireworks. These were in Blaine Washington right at the border of Canada and they started at dusk which here is 10:30. This peninsula of land is across the harbor and you could see fireworks in several directions along the bay. In fact there were a lot of fireworks going off around us as they are for sale everywhere here. The top two photos show them going off over the boat house next to us.

Old Fishing Boat

From this spot in Blaine Washington, about 20 miles up the road, you can see the border crossing into Canada. Would be interesting to know the history of this old fishing boat which appears to have been sitting here for quite some time.
