Always good to get home

So we get home to thunder storms. More rain in the first two days home than in two months in Washington.
Hard to believe but this is the 1000th post on this blog. More to come.

Mine, Pioche Nevada

A large processing plant for a mine in Pioche Nevada. There are tram towers with ore buckets still on the cables coming down the mountain.

Great Basin Highway

Had expected just a desert highway but found it to be very green on the northern end. There were also several lakes and streams. The lakes seem to be shallow and may dry up at times. These trees were just north of a good size lake and at times the area must flood which may have killed these trees but to the right at slightly higher elevation there were some large Cottonwood trees.

Steam Train Ely Nevada

Stopped to Photograph a retired Richfield gas station on the main street of Ely then turned down a side street and found the truck which had been stuck in the weeds. While photographing the truck a steam locomotive pulling several train cars went by. Found the train station on the other side of town. Ely must have been a major train center in its day and they have done a great job in keeping it up. In addition to the station there is the old water tower, garages where the locomotive is put away for the night, and a large old warehouse on a siding. All of this along with a old Ford delivery truck and a locomotive built in 1917 to plow snow on the tracks. The steam train makes runs carrying passengers. You can even ride in the locomotive and for a price even drive the train.

Heading Home

After two months in Washington we headed home taking a different route that we took going up. From Seattle we headed for Twin Falls Idaho then south Taking the great Basin Highway to Las Vegas and on home.
Stopped to eat breakfast at a rest area by this bridge. The rest area had a view over the valley and both Mt Rainier and Mt Adams were visible.
