Nusretiye Mosque

The Nusretiye Mosque is near the waterfront where the cruise ships dock. Built in the 1820s it is unusual in that the base of the dome is twice as high above the floor as the diameter of the dome making it a much taller looking structure than most mosques. When I walked up the steps to the courtyard it appeared that no one was there. Walking around the courtyard I ways unable to find any unlocked door but soon someone saw me looking in the windows and invited me in. The entrance was a large leather hanging drape that covered the entrance door. After being shown around I was given full access to photograph.
